There are  independent , non-profit   NGOs working for older citizens ,, who have crossed 60 years age. Their  motto is  “Global Elder Abuse must stop.”  Two  Organizations working at international level are as under, however there would be much more organization ,which we are not aware .

By 2050 nearly One in Five people in developing countries will be over 60.

Above all is simply for GK purpose ,  and normally would not attract our attention. We are simply sitting in our cozy houses , well protected by our relations ,  friends , pension & Savings, but what attracted my attention is a report on Elder abuse & crime in India by Helpage India . Some of the interesting data , which would open our eyes are as under :-

1. 72% Stay with Son , 23%stay with spouse and 13 % living with daughters.
2. 55% elders have remittance from Children & more than 35% depend on Pension.
3. 69% living in their own house and remaining in rented house.
4. More than 52% are dependent on daughter-in law  for daily routine.
5. 60% of the elderly consider verbal abuse as elder abuse while 48% feel physical abuse constitute elder abuse.
6. Abuse by daughter-in law was reported most in Delhi 100% followed by Hyderabad 89% & Bhopal 87%.
7. 98% of the elderly reported not filing a complaint against abuse faced.
8. There are estimated 90 millions older persons in India. 7.5% of Population.
9. 63% Daughter-in-law & 44% son   abuse  their elders.

We  always boost about our culture with regard to respect given to elders and lookdown so called western countries  for ignoring their elders. But aboe facts are eye opener and we are  no better than others.

Shall we not sit down and  examine the present scenario in correct perspective . We all are  guilty  . We talk  big on religion , morals  and righteous things but we leave them outside when we enter in our domain .
